1. You are adamant that it is not your issue

2. Your eyes scan every woman who walks into the room

3. You unexpectedly go silent

4. You find yourself searching for sexual partners online just for research

5. You go out of your way to drive by strip clubs

6. You call escorts to ask questions without making a commitment

7. You erase your temporary Internet history daily

8. You only search the...

I was sitting in a room with about 60 women when the question was asked, “Is it okay to use sex toys in your marriage?” Honestly, I was not sure how to answer the question. What sex toys are we talking about? That was the wrong question. The conversation spun out of control and brought me way outside my comfort zone. After an uncomfortable minute I handed off the question to another XXXchurch...

Young people, dating and marriage: What Are We Teaching Them?

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are ending their marriage of less than 3 months. Reportedly they collected 10 million dollars for their wedding which breaks down to about 139,000 a day. Scarlette Johansson defended her  revealing photos to be released in an upcoming issue if Vanity Fair says, “It’s not like I was shooting...

Are you clear about the boundaries you’ve drawn in you’re life?

We set boundaries for all sorts of things in our lives only to break them hours later. My worship guys at our church are always setting food boundaries, specifically pizza boundaries, which they never keep. Maybe you have set boundaries connected to the food you eat, the number of weekly counseling sessions you will offer, how...

Romans 2:4, "Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?"

When we live a life of habitual sin do we really grasp the kindness and patience of God? At some point doesn't our tolerance for habitual sin prove our ignorance of God's wonderful kindness?

Detox

by Jake larson on May 2 2011 in Pastors Blog | Comments

I eat so much junk! It is not McDonalds - let's not get carried away! However, it is way to often that I dive into those amazing Urban Fries at Jack's or indulge in the cookies someone graciously (maliciously) left in our offices. If I am not careful I can find myself eating something unhealthy everyday. Time for some detox! This week is the first of many where I have cut out sugars,...

Fresh Start

by Jake larson on April 18 2011 in Pastors Blog | Comments

Be encouraged by a fresh start. I have found it funny that over the last couple of days I have been thinking about who I want to be in 2010. It seems like my mind will not stop processing 2009 and making daily commitments to new beginnings. The reason why I have found this obsession funny is that with God and His grace I have a new beginning each and every day of the year. Maybe it would...

Yesterday, I posted part 2 which you can read here.

The men at Florence were complete strangers when they passed through the gates of the prison. Many of them lived similar lives but never crossed paths. In the prison I met men from all walks of life and ethnicity. The men were black, Asian, white, really white, Indian, young, old, and everything in-between. I was told that in order to...

Yesterday, I posted Part 1.

You reap what you saw. True or False?

The consequences of someone's sin and the grace of Jesus cross paths and yet also maintain independence. Jesus offers the opportunity for all people to repent, turn to Jesus, and have a new life. In this new life we are free from the punishment of  eternal judgement and separation from God. This is great news! Our eternal...

Hey! I am Jake. I started Fireproof Ministries with Craig back in 1998. We have known each other since I was in 7th grade. I speak on behalf of the ministry several times a year and I write on the pastors blog. I spoke at a church in Chandler, Arizona last weekend. I was asked to share a message the day before to a group of sex offenders in prison. I called Craig a few days before and asked...
