You reap what you saw. True or False?
The consequences of someone's sin and the grace of Jesus cross paths and yet also maintain independence. Jesus offers the opportunity for all people to repent, turn to Jesus, and have a new life. In this new life we are free from the punishment of eternal judgement and separation from God. This is great news! Our eternal...
Hey! I am Jake. I started Fireproof Ministries with Craig back in 1998. We have known each other since I was in 7th grade. I speak on behalf of the ministry several times a year and I write on the pastors blog. I spoke at a church in Chandler, Arizona last weekend. I was asked to share a message the day before to a group of sex offenders in prison. I called Craig a few days before and asked...
After countless conversations with people who are struggling through sexual purity issues, I occasionally stop and think about my own life. Do my words match my actions?
When I am listening to a man share his harmful habits it is easy for me to direct them. I often lay out a list of next steps and say, "If you follow these steps then you will give yourself a running chance at success and...
When Is The Last Time You Were On The Receiving End?
Ever have a difficult time saying no? The phone rings on your day off and there's an emergency. Someone's daughter is pregnant, a marriage is ending, someone is hungry, the alarm at the church is sounding - emergencies. Whether they are real real or perceived emergencies, the call for help is coming to you.
Over years of ministry I have...
Sitting in my office and listening to the pain of others seems to be a regular occurrence these days. People are struggling. Often times it is very clear to me where someone has tripped up, why they have gone astray, and what has happened to their marriage to cause such rebellious activity. It seems to be a season of counseling people through the destruction of adulterous affairs. I...
There seems to be consistent moments in my life when I feel the burden and the discomfort of someone else's pain. Men are constantly coming to me following their bad decisions expressing pain, fear, and uncertainty about the future. Some of those occasions ring through my mind for days and I can't seem to turn them off. I hate watching people ruin their lives when there is incredible...
I have been speaking with my son a lot recently about trust. He is 7 and believes he should have the freedom of an 18 year old. He doesn't understand why he cannot run a mile on the bike trail without me or why he can't just ride his bike over to the 7-eleven. I have explained to him that certain privileges come with age and others after building trust. He wants everything now, like a get in...
"I was given a thorn in my flesh." [2 CORINTHIAN 12:7]
Do you have a thorn in your flesh today? It seems like forever people have referred to their addiction, struggle, weakness, character flaw, or any ongoing consistent pain in life as a thorn in the flesh. For some of you it is your marriage, attitude, temper, or your pride. This lack of humility keeps you from the very best God may have for...
As I become more committed to exercise and eating right, I realize how often I fill my stomach with food that only starves me internally.
This happens to me regularly when I am traveling. If you travel like as well prepared as I do than your travel days may be a bit chaotic. I am sitting on an airplane all day only to land and go speak at an event. I finish speaking and jump back in the rental...
July 18, 2010 marked the beginning of Team XXXchurch as we completed the Vineman 70.3 half Ironman Triathlon. Many months ago the idea was fresh and untested - would it work for a organization battling porn to break into the endurance world to raise funding and awareness? Absolutely YES! This last week our team, made up primarily of men who had no previous connection to the ministry,...
