Sharing the fact that you struggle with porn is about as fun as walking into a police station and informing the first officer you see that you have unpaid parking tickets.

Nobody wants to do that.

The feeling is one of shame and discomfort.

However, if you were to show up at the police station with your unpaid parking tickets but you had the cash to pay them off you might be unhappy about your financial loss, but you would be satisfied with your moral gain and clean slate.

Sharing your struggle with porn is difficult, but in the long run it is extremely beneficial.

Craig Gross has repeatedly cited the statistic that upwards of 70% of porn is viewed in private by only one person. This implies we feel porn use is something we have to hide; because we are ashamed.

My solution: Don’t hide it.

Luke 8:17 says, “For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.” If you look at porn long enough it is inevitable someone will bust you. Your darkness will be brought to light and it will be very embarrassing. You could lose a job, a friend, or even a family member.

So bring your darkness to the light on your own.

I suggest opening up to someone you trust, and someone who will not judge you but will challenge you. If you don’t have accountability you can find help here: HELP

Opening up to someone is rewarding because you can get your sin off your shoulders and move in the right direction, but take note: you have to move. You have to change. Do not waste your time opening up to someone who will only listen to you and say they forgive you. Find someone to share your struggle with who will be understanding and loving, but who will also push you to alter your plan of attack against porn.

So share your struggle with someone and start making progress.

One who is drowning in rough waters and does not call for help will die. However, Peter called for Christ’s help in Matthew 14 as he sank in the water and Christ reached out and caught him.

Call out for help. You will be saved.
