XXXchurch: MENS BLOG

All day long I’m around media - computers, television, radio, newspapers, magazines and smart phones. I touch at least 10 major types of media on most days. All of these media outlets have been triggers for me when it comes to sexual temptation. I need to have a well-thought out plan for each category.

Before I give you a survey of my media and my strategy, here are some key recovery...

YOU CAN FIND IT ON YOUR OWN, BUT YOU CAN’T GET OUT OF IT ON YOUR OWN

It doesn’t matter how you’re brought up or how sheltered the environment: sexual impurity snakes and slithers its way into everybody’s world. I was no exception.

I grew up in a Christian home, with fantastic parents, going to church 3-4 times a week, memorizing Scripture, attending Christian school, and a student...

The Beginning of the End of Lust’s Reign in My Life

By the summer of 1998, I had been in recovery programs and counseling for seven years, yet was still in bondage to lust. God set the stage for the ultimate breakthrough I would encounter a year later in several ways.

He began by hitting me with holy fear.
Alone on a business trip to Europe, I masturbated to porn in a hotel in...

I think most people can trace the roots and progression of their pornography addiction.  It isn’t that difficult to identify the early onset of sexual dependency as well as the major events that contributed to one’s unraveling.  I can remember almost every milestone that occurred in my life that served as major catalysts for my pornography addiction.  My story isn’t much different than many. I can remember the first time I was exposed to porn. I was probably around 7 or 8 years old. I really don’t remember. But I had gotten a hold of my grandfather’s magazine. I can still remember in relative detail the picture, somewhere around 20 years later.

I was again exposed in high school, then again in college. The addiction really took root in college. I was a Theology student. I...

I’ve heard it said that porn will “take you farther than you want to go and keep you longer than you want to stay.”

That statement certainly rings true in my case.  Unfortunately, the story of how porn first entered my life isn’t an uncommon one:

I was 13 years old – innocently surfing the web after wasting an hour or so playing some pointless online game. I opened up a search engine and...

“They triumphed over him by the blood of the lamb and the power of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink form death.” (Revelation 12:11).

This verse comes to us in the context of a vision John has of an apocalyptic battle, where a voice from Heaven is declaring this victory that has been gained over Satan and his armies. For me, the victory came in a similar...

My first exposure to pornography was through a VHS tape (remember those?!).  I can still remember the feelings, the exhilaration, the excitement as though it were only yesterday.  From the age of 13, images of hardcore sex were burned into my brain.  Little did I know, but it would be a secret that I would keep hidden and buried for 12 years of my life.  Almost daily I would view the porn...

Most of my struggles with pornography began when I obtained very easy access to the internet, which was mainly throughout my 20's.  I lived in that cycle, you know, the one of temptation, anticipation, failure, guilt, shame, a promise to never do it again followed by building temptation.  I did all the things that you are supposed to do when you are trying to break this type of a habit, I...

Curiosity killed a cat but it didn't kill my addiction. After years of struggling I can say it was an addiction. Porn didn't start out big but small. It soon transformed, as quick as technology advance at the same speed did my viewing of hardcore porn. In order to see the hole you dug you have to look back.

As a normal teenager I was interested in sex but not porn…yet. I masturbated...
