I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.” Job 31:1.

Part of overcoming sexual addiction is to guard our eyes. Consider here what Job said. He made a covenant not to look lustfully at women. He made a pledge. He would not look lustfully at women.

I work at an airport and at times I am outside for long periods of time waiting on customers. Part of this job is seeing the amount of women that go through the airport with clothes that either reveal a lot of skin or with clothes that are form fitting enough that it doesn’t leave a whole lot to the imagination.

I have to guard my eyes. I have to claim God’s promises and conscientiously look another direction or close my eyes to avoid seeing these women for longer than I absolutely have to. (Praise the Lord, in just under 6 weeks I won’t be there anymore as my wife and I are moving a considerable distance away).
Look away. Pray when tempted. As a good friend of mine suggested, pray for the women you are being tempted to lust after and remember that they are God’s precious daughters. Ask God to bless His precious daughters. Jesus died for them as well as for us.

Have Bible verses on hand in some form (whether it’s notecards or something else) that you can refer to in order to keep your mind where it needs to be. Have a friend that you can contact to ask for prayer. Stay connected with people who love God and who can pray for you. Yes it is difficult. But Jesus promised that we can do all things through Him because He gives us strength. Philippians 4:13.

But no matter where you encounter the temptation, guarding yourself is a must. It might not be at work where you are tempted. But there are still many other places. What we need to remember is we have to rely on Jesus if we are going to get through this. We can’t do it without Him.
