HOW TO STAY COOL, WHEN IT GETS HOT
Week Two: Guard Your Vision

It’s summertime! And it is getting hot. Wherever we go, we will see men and women wearing less clothing. What does this mean when we battle with lust? Temptation. This month XXXchurch.com is on a mission to help you gracefully deal with that temptation. In week one we learned that if we want to stay cool when it gets hot then we need to leave the room. Today, in week two we will learn to guard our vision.

Psalm 119:37 NIV says, “Turn my eyes away from worthless things.”

This is something that I’ve learned to practice. For those of you who don’t know me, I love social media, especially Instagram. However, while scrolling on Instagram you might see things that you either don’t like or are simply not good for you. I’ve learned to make the unfollow button my new friend. I unfollow accounts that have the potential to create an unhealthy appetite within me. For example, I used to follow some of the Kardashian’s accounts because I’ll admit, I love sneakers, and they have great shoe game. However, one day I noticed a bunch of near-naked photos on my feed, so I clicked on that profile and unfollowed.

Why did I do this? Because I wanted to turn my eyes from worthless things by guarding my vision. Here’s a thought, whatever you allow yourself to see seeds into you. Some of the things we’ve been looking at are sowing seeds that are harvesting things within us that we don’t want. This is why it’s imperative that we guard our vision.

When you guard your vision, you guard your life. Never forget that your life is important. Your marriage is important. Your friendships are important. In order to guard these things, to honor God, and to protect our purity then we must learn to guard our vision. Do whatever it takes to set yourself up for the win because a guarded vision is a guarded life and you deserve that my friend.
