Pure Eyes Book – Question on Triggers

Hey friends-

I just got finished reading the chapter on the physiological effects that addiction has on the brain. It talked about how one of the counselors interviewed said that her clients make a sobriety sheet/plan, including her sex addicts. If they know that a certain news stand is a trigger, then they do what’s necessary to avoid going to that news stand.

So my question is this: if being at home alone is a trigger for me, does that mean I avoid being home alone until I’m sober? It says that it usually takes 30-90 days for the brain to be rewired, so does that mean I have to avoid home for 30-90 days?

If being home and being bored or lonely is your trigger you need to find away around being bored or alone. This does not mean you have to avoid your house. The real trigger is being alone and bord from what I can tell.

When we remove porn from our lives and it has consumed so much of our life and brain we need to fill it in with something else. Your brain is looking for the porn and you have now removed it. It needs something to replace it.

Maybe this is a new hobby, heading to church more often, sports, exercise, or even diving into the word. You need to replace toe old with the new.

Removing the sin

Hey y’all,

Long story short, I’ve been dealing with pornography for the past 10 or so years of my life. I’m a tech savvy guy and always seem to find a way around whatever wall I build up. I have no idea what to do. I’ve tried safe eyes, found a way around that. I’ve gotten rid of my internet browser, but I’m a web designer so I have to have that to make a living.

Really, what I’m asking is WHAT DO I NEED TO DO. I have no idea. No matter what solution I come up with, I seem to find a way around and I’m losing hope. I don’t know. I’ve been going to counseling which has been identifying a lot of the psychological issues, but I’m still going back to porn. How to I completely remove it from my life? I want it gone but I keep coming back to it…

Some times we need to take drastic actions if we want to remove it.Do you have an office to work out of away from home or is it a home office. if it is away from home leave your systems at the office and do not take it home. If this is an addiction for you then maybe entertaining even a new line of work. I know this is drastic but, if this is what is allowing you to live this type of a life than you may want to think about it.

The fact you are seeing someone about this is great and you are heading in the right direction. It does take time so the thought that it will go away over night will not happen. It is something we need to keep fighting and will for a long time.

Do not give up hope and know you are not alone in this. We are here and praying for you as you go through this.
