Help

is it possible to break your addiction to porn by yourself?ans help from God?

Shaun. It takes serious support from God and people you trust. Accountability is key. Here are the initial steps:

Your courage to come clean is extraordinary.
First, confess to God where you are at. Everything, the big and little stuff. He forgives you. Your heart must be ready for change. Go to him and prayer and get in the scriptures.
You must get accountability in your life. You need to tell someone about all of this. Someone you trust such as a pastor, close friend, or youth leader. Someone who is going to make you own your decision to change and call you out when you stumble. This is hard, but you must do it.
Then take practical steps in your life to clean it up. Get X3watch on your computer and have the reports sent to your accountability partner. X3watch is a program that you can put on your computer and sends any questionable websites to your one or two accountability partners. Go to x3watch to download the software. You must tackle your struggle head on by changing things in your life, do not get on the computer at times when your feel tempted, identify patterns in your life, possibly get rid of the computer, stop being alone with girls. Tackle it all head on, wherever you are at. This stuff is not worth it!

Let us know if we can be of any more help.

Manner or fashion of help

I was able to see an episode of True Life on MTV not too long ago and I noticed that it was something to the extent of pornography addiction. The resort of rectification directed this young man to Church xxx. Even though I completely agree with your intentions I have to admit, the course the two gentleman navigated was very unprofessional. Not only in the way they treated this fellow who, in the fisrt place, was seeking help, but they seemingly showed very little compassion. The whole “I cant help you unless you want this” method honestly shocked me. I guess just the whole fact that this man admitted he had trouble, admitted he wanted help, and admitted that he might not be able to accomplish what he wanted, but yet, your “help” did nothing but grown increasingly frustrated. Whats that about?

Jake,

I am sorry you see it that way. For one, this may be partially due to the fact that you did not see even half of what went on. Much more filming took place and everything on the MTV special was not displayed in the correct order. So know that you may be deceived with not seeing the whole story. Also, we’ve been fighting this for a long time and if someone is not willing to take the steps to overcome, we cannot force them to get better. If one is home alone with a laptop connected to the internet, says they want to do everything to get rid of their porn addiction but will not get a strong filter or get rid of the computer, they will most likely remain tempted.

I am sorry it seemed like a lack of compassion. It is just a matter that takes serious steps. This man was loosing his wife and children if he didnt take it seriously. Therefore we take it seriously. Its a life changing issues. I honestly think you are misconstrued by only seeing part of the story because our team really does offer compassion and love to those struggling and beyond. Sorry for the way it may have seemed. Editing can play a role in that. We formed a relationship with this man beyond that 30 mins of tv and honestly seek to love and help as best possible.
