Despite your views on abortion and whether you are pro-choice or pro-life, you cannot ignore its side effects.

Statistics on Abortion and teenagers

Yes, if I was unmarried and pregnant, abortion would look appealing because we are told that it’s an easy fix to a hard situation. But really, there is a lot more to abortion than what popular belief says. I’ve heard countless testimonies of young women like us that believed that abortion was what they wanted, yet they never heard the risk and the damage that could come with the “easy fix”.

According to www.americanpregnancy.org, these are the potential side effects:

Short term – for the proceeding 2 to 4 weeks

  • Abdominal pain and cramping
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Spotting and Bleeding

Long term—about  1 out of 100 first trimester abortions and approximately 1 out of every 50 late term abortions, it is important to be aware of the following risks:

  • Heavy or persistent bleeding
  • Infection or sepsis
  • Damage to the cervix
  • Scarring of the uterine lining
  • Perforation of the uterus
  • Damage to other organs
  • Death

I interviewed one of my friends who had an abortion so everything below are the things that she had to say about abortion being an “easy fix”.

The message from the church is “don’t have sex before marriage”, but what do you do after that?

We have believed the lies that by getting an abortion we can push the undo button, so our parents won’t find out and so we can continue on living our lives.

Many girls have thought they are doing the right thing but once they have made the unchangeable decision they are forced to live with regrets and a longing for a child they will never get to hold. The emotional and spiritual implications are hard.

You’re not strong because you get an abortion, you’re weak. Everyone deserves life, and it’s selfish to deny someone that- it’s okay to be scared, it’s hard but there are agencies out there and families who want to have a baby of their own.

Abortion seems like an easy fix, but it’s not an easy fix, it’s a lifelong nightmare- it leaves an eternal scar.

There is a certain emptiness of that one month that your son or daughter would have been born.

And for those of you who have already had an abortion and regret it – Christ has forgiveness for you at the cross. Regardless of what you’ve done, people, friends, and family may turn you away but God can mend your heart. Be encouraged because you are not alone in this, it’s hard to talk out sometimes but speaking up helps. Sometimes it’s easier but don’t hide behind your feelings, if you need help don’t be afraid to ask for help.

You never know what your story could do for someone else. Break the silence. Break the chains.
