(The names have been changed to protect the guilty, remorseful, and determined to overcome).

There was this man whose name is K. Mickey who loved God, followed Jesus, and loved sports.  He had come from a background of pornography and was doing well in his new life with Christ. His favorite Sports Talk radio station used the phrase: “We Know What Guys Want.” As he continued to listen to this station, he was subjected to commercials advertising for Strip Clubs, “guy talk” about sleeping with this woman or that woman, the latest “leaked” celebrity nude photos or sex tapes mixed in with sports talk.  He said that this talk just comes with the territory.  He did not realize that his resistance was gradually being worn down. He even felt that he could handle this level of conversation because of his track record of previous success.

Then he heard the words that started the downward spiral.  The talk show hosts said “Did you hear that so & so had some photos leaked on the internet?”  That particular starlet got his attention, so he first went to some “gossip” websites. He took a peak. Then he took a longer look. Then he stared.  Then that was not enough, so he went to a more, shall we say-provocative gossip site. It just so happened that the more provocative website was the trigger for his pornographic downfalls in the past, and this time was no exception.  A weekend down the tube.

K. Mickey made the mistake that so many of us make.  He kept feeding the beast. The exit point was the sports talk radio, not the web surfing. We need to take as radical and drastic steps as necessary because we are not stronger than sin.  In case you didn’t know it, the battle always starts in the mind. K. Mickey allowed his mind to be fed a consistent diet of conversation that was not beneficial to his spiritual well-being. He needed to “Just Say No” to the sports talk shows.

“Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect.”  Romans 12:2 / NCV

It is not enough to stop looking at porn. We have to fill our mind with the Word of God.

It sucks to start from ground zero. It is far far worse to say “Ahh forget it. I can’t stop. I am throwing in the towel.”  Jesus is real! His power is real! His way does work! So be encouraged! There is a song by Gospel Singer Donnie McClurkin that is called “We Fall Down.” It says we fall down, but we get up. For a saint is just a sinner who fell down and got up.” The Bible says it like this:

“The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked. Proverbs 24:16 / NLT

Keep on fighting. And may the God of Hope keep encouraging you through his love and grace.
