Sometimes it is hard to pick up the Bible and just read away every day of your life…

I totally think it is a gift to be able to just read the Bible from the front cover to the back. Honestly I never really have read it that way and I totally think that I am missing a few minor prophets in my completion of reading the the entire Bible. Shame on me….

All that aside. You have to find what works for you. Here are a few things that have helped me in the “sturggle” to read scripture every day of my life….

1. One One and One
This is something that I started a month ago. I have to give credit to the prez (pictured-he is a jolly fellow…) at the university I went for this idea. He said simply read one Psalm, one Proverb and one New Testament chapter everyday.

Three chapters every day. It really does work. It keeps things fresh and new. When you get to the end of Psalms and Proverbs just simply start over at the beginning of the books…

It really has helped me be disciplined.

2. New Versionations
Try a new version of the Bible. I really like the Message…just my preference..
I love how it puts the story of Ehud, Judges 3:20: “Ehud reached with his left hand and took his sword from his right thigh and plunged it into the king’s big belly. Not only the blade but the hilt went in. The fat closed in over it so he couldn’t pull it out.”

Dont mess with the King’s big belly…

3. Big Picture
Try to read other books that put in perspective entire story of the Bible. I recommend these books which paint a good broad picture of the Bible as one grand story..NT Wright  – Biblical Lessons on Discipleship and recently I just started RB’s Jesus Wants to Save Christians.

One One and One for life!
