I find it odd that so many people are throwing arguments around on another blog post about masturbation. Within this post, there are arguments pro-masturbation, con-masturbation; some with theological bends and others just opinions. Whatever your stance is on the issue of masturbation, it is something you must wrestle with, especially in light of the varying thoughts and reasonings behind it. So as you wrestle with a decision, let me provide you with some direction.
1. You are to be like-Christ.
1 Peter 3:13-16, 13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (reference: Leviticus 19:2)
Things to consider
Are you an obedient child of God?
Are you more conformed to be like Christ or your evil past?
Are you living a holy life?
2. Masturbation is a difficult temptation
1 Corinthians 10:13, 13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Things to consider
What are your greatest causes of temptation?
What are the ways out God is providing for you?
3. Living in tension is a good thing.
Colossians 3:2, Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Living in tension is the life Christians have been called to lead. Everything we do should be eternally driven, as if for the glory of God. In light of this, how we wrestle with the tension should always bring us to the Lord. If for some reason, we find ourselves in a position to be tempted, or having already been tempted and given in, then the tension is out of balance and our focus is off.
