In 17 years of XXXchurch announcements, blog posts, and emails, this by far is the most bittersweet and exciting announcements I’ve ever written.
You’ve heard the saying, “All good things must come to an end.” I just never thought of how that would apply to me and my work here at XXXchurch. I have seen this ministry grow beyond my wildest dreams. From our very first outreach in 2002 at the largest porn show in the nation to the millions of people struggling with addiction that have found a safe place of hope, healing, and recovery here.
I have been thinking a lot about what’s next for me. I started this ministry when I was twenty-something, and I am now forty-something. In complete transparency, I have been thinking about it since 2013. On episode (#19) of Craig Brain (a podcast I started this year unlike anything I’ve done before) I share a self-written letter explaining why I am stepping out of my role at XXXchurch. It has everything to do with what I heard the Lord say in 2013 with regards to moving on. For the last six years of my life, I have tried to figure out what I am running towards rather than what I am moving away from.
Through prayer earlier this year, I heard the Lord say, “Give XXXchurch to Brittni and Rich De La Mora to lead.” Brittni is a former porn star we met while she was still in the industry, and we fostered a relationship with her as she began hers with Christ. What God has done in her life in the last seven years is nothing short of a beautiful miracle. She knows the Bible inside and out and is an incredible depiction of redemption. It doesn’t surprise me in the least that God is calling her here. Three years ago Brittni married Rich, a pastor she became friends with after she left the industry. Rich comes from a family of ministers; he has a compassionate heart and loves XXXchurch.
Brittni and Rich, with some help, can take this ministry further than I can now. I have worked closely with them over the years, so I know their capabilities. I am committed to working with them for the next twelve months during this transition, behind the scenes. Think of them as the new quarterbacks and me as their coach. Together they will champion this ministry.
I have never been more excited about leaving something because I do believe the future is bright with these two. To me, it is the perfect way to exit after all the craziness and backlash we heard about going to a porn show in 2002. It took years of outreach to Brittni for her to come to Christ and leave the industry. It has now been over six years of working with her, attending her wedding, and witnessing what God is doing through her new family. To know that this is who will lead this ministry brings a smile to my face like no other. I could never have seen that coming 17 years ago when we went to our first porn show and everyone was asking why I was doing this ministry. Brittni will never have to answer that question.
Starting July 12, 2019, you will not see me (Craig) on new material, videos, emails in your inbox or on the road speaking. The next blog you will see will be from Brittni and Richard. They want to share more of themselves with you and their vision for XXXchurch. Thank you for supporting me throughout the years and making all that we’ve done with XXXchurch possible.
