This is something we get asked every time we do outreach. It’s usually not asked from a place of defense, but more often it’s genuine confusion that prompts it. It also happens to be one of our favorite questions to answer! After all, it’s a legitimate question to ask and a legitimate scene to be confused by.
A small group of women of various ages and backgrounds walking into a strip club with cupcakes in hand and smiles on their faces. No words of judgment are exchanged. They don’t try to convince these girls to leave. There are not even trace looks of shock, or pity. There has to be a catch. People don’t normally just do this type of thing.
Being part of a ministry like this means we don’t answer the question “Why are you here?” just with our words, but also with our actions. We’re always upfront and tell the girls we’re there because Jesus loves them and so do we. We might share that some of us have been in the industry and know how much something like this would’ve brightened our day. We also make sure to share the reasons we’re not there for.
We’re not here to judge.
We’re not there to condemn
We’re not there to rescue anyone.
It’s simply about love with no strings attached. We echo this truth in our actions by showing up consistently, praying constantly, and loving them continuously.
To be honest we end up asking ourselves why we are there as well. For those of us that have been in the industry we often stand in awe of God’s grace to have put us on this side of redemption. For those of us that have never been in the industry we remain humbled that God would use us to share such a sweet message with His daughters. No matter what our past may be, none of us ever feel qualified enough to be part of this ministry. Which is probably why it continues to flourish – we know how much we need Jesus for this to continue!
Perhaps you’ve considered doing something like this but fear, doubt, or an overall feeling of insignificance has held you back. Yet every time you read an article about girls that are working in this industry you feel a burden on your heart. Don’t let fear hold you back!
I’d challenge you to prayerfully consider attending our next Strip Church training coming up in Chicago on July 11th – 12th. Please check out more information here, and reach out to [email protected] if you have any more questions! We hope to see you there!
